The Omanhen of Abura State, Emintsinminim Otu XI, has demonstrated strong traditional leadership by dispatching a high-powered delegation of Nananom to officially welcome Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu into his new role as Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, and Minister in charge of Government Communication.
The delegation, led by Nana Yamfo Kwegyir XI and comprised of other prominent traditional leaders including Nana Kwame Tipo Amanfo VIII, Nana Ansaful, Obaahemaa Efua Sasa II, Nana Appiah Serebour, Nana Kusi Buedum II, Nana Kwegyir Idama XI, Nana Amoesi VIII, and Nana Essakwa Ampiah VI, conveyed their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Abura Traditional Council.
They expressed deep gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting a son of Abura with such a prestigious national responsibility. The delegation also presented a formal proposal outlining key developmental challenges and expectations of the Abura people.
Key Issues Presented by the Abura Traditional Council
The meeting highlighted several critical concerns affecting the Abura State, ranging from infrastructure to education, security, and youth development:
- Urgent Road Infrastructure Development
The delegation stressed that over 99% of the road networks in the Abura Traditional Area are in deplorable condition, significantly hindering transportation, economic activities, and access to essential services. They urged immediate attention to roads including:
Abakrampa Junction to Okyirku
Abakrampa and Abura Dunkwa township roads
Afrangua Junction through Mpeseduadze to Ayeldo
Obokor Junction through Abura Gyabankrom to Odonase
All major roads in Abura Etsifi (Abura North)
Improving these roads, they argued, would open up the local economy, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for residents.
- Construction of Functional Markets
A formal request was made for the construction of a 131-stall market in Abakrampa, as well as similar projects in Abura Gyabankrom and Egwotsia Kokodo. These markets would serve as economic hubs for local farmers and traders.
- Agricultural Development and Industrialization
With 95% of the community engaged in farming, the delegation proposed the establishment of an agricultural processing facility to reduce post-harvest losses, provide market stability, and stimulate rural industrial growth.
- Education Infrastructure: Dormitories and E-Blocks
The overcrowded conditions at Aburaman Senior High School, where dining halls have been converted into hostels, was a major concern. The chiefs called for immediate construction of dormitories and an E-Block facility in Abura North to ease pressure and enhance educational outcomes.
- Renovation of the Abrankor Palace
To preserve cultural heritage and support traditional governance, the chiefs appealed for government assistance in renovating the Abrankor Palace.
- Youth Employment and Recruitment Support
The delegation emphasized the urgent need for employment opportunities for youth in sectors such as the Armed Forces, Police, Immigration, CEPS, and public services. They called on Hon. Ofosu to prioritize Abura youth in recruitment exercises.
- Implementation of Police Divisional Command at Abakrampa
Though approved under the previous administration, the proposed Divisional Command at Abakrampa remains unimplemented. The chiefs asked Hon. Ofosu to ensure its establishment to improve security in the area.
- GETFund Scholarships for Tertiary Students
The delegation urged prioritization of students from the Abura area under the GETFund scheme to support tertiary education and relieve families of financial burdens.
Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu Responds with Commitment
In his response, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu thanked the delegation for their warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency.
He outlined his immediate plan to begin with fixing the inner-city roads of Abura Dunkwa, followed by:
Abakrampa to Asowase road
Afrangua through Mpeseduadze, Gyabankrom to Egotsia Kokodo
Ayeldo to Testi and Kwaman roads
Abakrampa Junction to Asomdwee
He also pledged to deliver on President Mahama’s promise to train 100 youths in coding and initiate apprenticeship programs for young women in trades such as hairdressing, soap-making, and tailoring.
During the Easter period, Hon. Ofosu announced that he would embark on a Thank You Tour to appreciate the constituents for their support, engage with the communities, and share updates on planned interventions.
He concluded by assuring the chiefs that the proposal had been received and would be thoroughly reviewed with his team. “We will tackle these issues one after the other,” he stated.
The meeting marked a meaningful collaboration between traditional leadership and government representation, paving the way for development-focused governance rooted in community dialogue and mutual respect.
