Ghanaian Highlife and Reggae musician, Kojo Antwi had the good fortune to celebrate his beloved father Opanin Kwadwo Asiamah Asubonten in song before his recent demise.

Antwi eulogized not only his dad but his mother whose name the song title bears.

On “Brebre Anowa” released in 1995, Antwi submits if he had wealth, he would buy his father a car and build him a storey structure as well as bear him grandchildren.

He adds Papa Asiamah shielded him and his siblings with his spirit, a rarity from a dutiful father. Kojo Antwi thus prayed the Supreme Divine for blessing and long life for his dad.

Long life, Papa Asiamah indeed enjoyed, tasting life’s offerings for some 28 years since that 1995 song dedication but alas on Monday, Jan. 2 this year he succumbed peacefully at home surrounded by his family aged 104.

As Akan custom dictates, there’s a 40-Day Observance to be held for the deceased before the final funeral.
