The Qatari World Cup has travelled the journey with the semi-final clashes set up for Tuesday and Wednesday.
While the tourney is chiefly about the footballers and coaches, fans couldn’t help but notice the influence and display of affection between some of the players and either a parent or both parents in the stands or on the pitch.
Morocco’s World Cup Round of 16 and quarterfinal triumph over Spain and Portugal respectively to advance to the semi-final stage; a first for an African and Arab state saw an outpouring of emotions.

On the Morocco side, Achraf Hakimi being greeted by his mother at the end of the Group F match against Belgium at Al-Thumama Stadium in Doha, on 27 Nov. 2022 captured the imagination.
After scoring the winning penalty for Morocco against Spain, Achraf Hakimi equally rushed over to his mother for a similar special blessing.
“I love you Mum,” he tweeted in Arabic following the Belgium’s game, with a heart emoji.

Although the Three Lions were tamed by the Les Bleus in their quarterfinal encounter and getting booted out of the tourney, Marcus Rashford had a good tournament comparatively.
Marcus Rashford rightfully stole the headlines when England beat rivals Wales 3-0 in their final game of Group B.
The 25-year-old Manchester United forward scored twice on the night, opening England’s account with a delightful free-kick from just outside the area to mark England’s 100th FIFA World Cup goal.
Rashford registered three goals at the tournament; having netted from the bench in England’s tournament opener against Iran also.
It helped that his mum Melanie Rashford was in the stand to offer inspirational support. In a Twitter post he expressed delight on earning his 50th cap with his mum looking on.

For Ghana and the Black Stars, Daniel Kofi Kyereh – a new addition to the squad did not enjoy more time on the field. However coming off from the bench he put up a solid performance.
Kyereh was born in Ghana to a German mother and Ghanaian father and moved to Germany at the age of 1. The SC Freiburg forward was also a former FC St. Pauli player. Daniel Kofi Kyereh’s parents were also on hand in Qatar to spur their son on.

Thomas Partey’s parents Jacob Partey and Mama Terbi were also on hand in Qatar to cheer their son ahead of Black Stars’ World Cup game against South Korea.
Partey hugged global headlines when Arsenal brokered a £110m deal for him to move from Atletico Madrid. With a £2.5m signing-on fee and 10 per cent agent commission, Thomas Partey is the club’s third-highest paid player behind Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He is on a £260,000-a-week wages.
