Emintsinminim Otu XI, Omanhen of Abura State, has sent a delegation of Nananom to meet Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, the Acting CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The purpose of the meeting was to welcome her into her new role and discuss key issues concerning the Abura State.
The delegation was led by Nana Kwame Otsipo Amanfo VIII (Abura Obaatan), Okofo Kwa Eduafo Nti Takyi VIII (Abura Werempemhen), Ogyehaho Assarkwa Ampia IV (Akwamuhen), Nana Kusi Buedum II (Abura Fordjoukrom), Nana Abura Edu VI (Odonase), Nana Amoesi VIII (Eguatsia Bonmu), along with Mr. Ocran, CEO of YOKS Car Rentals and President of the Anka Soma Royal Foundation.
The delegation expressed their gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing their daughter to such a significant national position. They also presented a formal letter to Prof. Klutse.
Key Issues Discussed
During the meeting, the delegation raised several critical issues affecting the Abura community:
Reclaiming Kakum Forest: The chiefs highlighted concerns over the ownership of the Kakum Forest, a large portion of which historically belonged to Abura but has since been claimed and gazetted by other traditional areas. They sought Prof. Klutse’s assistance in reclaiming their rightful portion.
Reclaiming Okurwa Forest: Originally under Abura’s control, the Okurwa Forest is now claimed by Assin. The delegation requested intervention to restore their traditional rights.
Employment Opportunities: The chiefs emphasized the need for job creation, urging Prof. Klutse to advocate for opportunities that would benefit Abura citizens.
Educational Support: They proposed the establishment of a scholarship scheme for Abura students pursuing environmental-related courses at the tertiary level.
Waste Management and Cleanliness: The delegation stressed the importance of improving waste management in Abura. Their proposals included providing dustbins at key locations and establishing a plastic recycling unit, aiming to make Abura the cleanest traditional area in Ghana.
Tree-Planting Initiative: They outlined plans to plant one million trees as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability.
Recognition and Response
As a mark of appreciation and recognition, the Abura State honored Prof. Klutse with the title of Development Queen Mother (Mpuntuhenbaa). Additionally, a citation of honor was presented on behalf of the Central Regional Chief, encouraging her to serve diligently for the benefit of the nation and her community.
In her response, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse expressed her gratitude to the chiefs and the people of Abura for their unwavering support and confidence in her leadership. She assured them of her dedication to addressing the environmental concerns raised and working towards sustainable development in the region and beyond.
The meeting concluded on a note of mutual commitment, with both parties looking forward to fruitful collaboration for the advancement of Abura State.
