The Hotel, Catering, and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT) held its 2024/2025 graduation ceremony at the National Theatre, awarding certificates to 193 graduates in disciplines including Tour Guiding, Kitchen Skills, Front Office, Food and Beverage, Event Management, Restaurant Management, and Housekeeping.
The event was skillfully chaired by Dr. Kwesi Eyison of Pacific Group of Companies. Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, delivered an inspiring address, urging graduands to embody professionalism and innovation, and showcase pride in Ghana’s dynamic hospitality and tourism sector. “You carry the reputation of HOTCATT and the promise of Ghana’s tourism future,” he stated. He unveiled a transformative 5-year Strategic Plan (2025–2029) aimed at modernizing training, digitalizing learning, and upgrading infrastructure.
Key Highlights of the Strategic Plan include, among others:
- Introduction of mandatory training and certification to elevate service standards
- Plans to implement Islamic hospitality standards in Ghana
- Ongoing academic partnerships with local universities
- Supporting HOTCATT to realize vision of becoming Centre of Excellence in practical hospitality training.
Distinguished speakers included Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, who encouraged graduates to be “custodians of Ghana’s hospitality brand” and to champion professionalism, innovation, and sustainability. Other notable speakers were Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC); Dr. Ackah Nyamike Jnr, President of the Ghana Hotels Association; Mr. Charles Adu Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Tour Operators Federation (GHATOF); Mr. Samuel Banibensu (Sam Bans), President of the Tour Guides Association of Ghana (TORGAG); Dr. Wale Okediran, Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association; Ms. Anita Ottenhof, a Hospitality Consultant.
The Executive Director of the National Theatre, the President of the Chefs’ Association of Ghana, and the President of Chefs’ Association of Sierra Leone were present to Grace the occasion.
The future of Ghana’s tourism industry rests with skilled, passionate and resilient professionals.
