Mathew Perry, well remembered for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, died at the age of 54 on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
The cause of death is being investigated, however rumors suggest he may have had a heart collapse in the home’s jacuzzi in Los Angeles.
1969 saw the birth of Perry in Williamstown, Massachusetts. In the early 1990s, he made his television debut in small roles on programs like Home Free and Second Chance.
He became well-known after landing the Chandler Bing role on Friends in 1994.
Friends aired for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004, and Perry soon rose to prominence as one of the show’s most popular stars. He was noted for his acerbic wit and physical comedic abilities.
Perry continued to act after Friends ended, appearing in series such as Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Mr Sunshine. In 2015, he also appeared in the Broadway drama The Odd Couple.
Perry has been candid in the past few years about his battles with substance misuse and mental illness. Since his initial admission to rehab in 1997, he has repeatedly left and returned to the program.
He wrote about his battles with addiction in a memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which was published in 2021.
Fans and friends were both shocked by Perry’s passing. He was a well-known actor and comedian who will be greatly missed.
