Watch Wizkid’s tribute to Davido at Madison Square Garden show


Afrobeats heavyweight Wizkid underlined his certified global superstar status during his sold-out Madison Square Garden show in New York on Nov. 16.

The 32-year-old, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun earned praise for commiserating with rival Davido when he expressed support as his grieves his deceased son Ifeanyi who reportedly drowned in a pool.

Wizkid when the news broke rescheduled the release of his new album “More Love, Less Ego” from Nov. 4 to 11 out of respect to his industry mate and at the Madison Square Garden event DJ Tunez blasted Davido’s “Dami Duro” as the Star Boy captain motivated him.

The Nigerian singer and songwriter treated patrons to a platter of evergreen hits and new tunes from his new “More Love, Less Ego” project.

Patrons jammed to old hits such as “Show You The Money” and “SOCO” while he eased them into new offerings “Money & Love,” “Everyday,” “Bad To Me,” “Call Me Everyday,” “Money & Love,” “Flower Pads,” as well as “Frames (Who’s Gonna Know).”

In session to witness the historic night were notable Africans from the continent, the diaspora and globally as well as his mum and sister.

Headlining the iconic arena in New York with the teeming numbers pleasantly surprised rapper Busta Rhymes who shared he’s not seen the Garden sold out (20,000+ people) as he’s witnessed patting him on the back for a great feat chalked.

“More Love, Less Ego” is a 13-track album with featured performances by Ayra Starr, Skillibeng, Sheen Sea, Naira Marley, Skepta, and Don Toliver.

Given his fourth album “Made in Lagos” earned him a Grammy win, it’s safe to say his fifth studio album could land him another Grammy.

Wizkid joins Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Adele, Rihanna Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and Burna Boy as artistes who have sold out the world’s most famous 20,789 capacity arena in New York, USA according to @AfricaFactsZone.

Wizkid’s “More Love Less Ego” has reached a new peak on UK iTunes chart, at #9.
